This 3 hour session is designed to give you an overview of dealing with staff absence and capability relating to ill health.

Suitable Audience

Councillors and staff responsible for managing people, or those who wish to develop their knowledge in this area.

Benefits

By the end of the Managing Absence session, you will have:

  • An understanding of the council's role in attendance management policy and processes and the importance of absence record keeping
  • Knowledge of the difference between managing short and long term absence.
  • An understanding of how fit notes operate and how to act upon any advice given by a Doctor or Occupational Health
  • Knowledge of how to manage individuals who are incapable of working due to ill health
  • Awareness of the legal and disciplinary aspects of absence
  • Awareness of the role of occupational health services and how to support staff health and wellbeing
