An overview of the current guidance and ideas about the key principles and strategies about setting a budget in uncertain times.

Suitable Audience
This session is aimed at Councillors who want to make sense of the budget process.

Benefits
By the end of the Budget and Precept Setting for Councillors session, you will:

  • Have an understanding of the legal framework around parish council budgets
  • Have an understanding of the difference between parish budgets and those of companies
  • Know how to make budget setting a positive forward planning process
  • Know how to get the message across to electors about what the council does with the money
  • Know hints, tips and ideas from other councils who got it right (and wrong!)
  • Know how to make best use of the proprietary software packages if used
