Details

Humber and North Yorkshire (HNY) Health and Care Partnership is proud to support and promote UK Disability History Month (UKDHM) 2022.

UKDHM is taking place from Wednesday 16 November to Friday 16 December 2022. The History of the Disability Rights Movement is one of a series of exciting sessions to mark this important event.

About UK Disability History Month (UKDHM)
UKDHM is an annual event which grew from the UK disability rights movement and it provides a platform to focus on the history of the struggle disabled people continue to face for equality and human rights.

It also provides an opportunity for the valuable contributions of disabled people to be acknowledged and celebrated, for us to focus on reducing the inequalities disabled people experience and to raise awareness of the ‘everyday ableism’ disabled people face.

Join us to find out more about the UK disability rights movement
Join members of the Humber and North Yorkshire (HNY) Disabled Staff Network of Networks on Thursday 24 November 2022 from 1-2pm to learn about the history of the UK disability rights movement.

From the battle to see the Disability Discrimination Act (1995) enshrined in UK law, the activism it took to shift the conversation around disability and the creation of the Equality Act (2010), this event will focus on sharing how progress was fought for in every corner of our nation.

We'll also look at where we are now and what work there is still left to do in stamping out the discrimination, everyday ableism and challenges around equitable access to work and employment felt by disabled people.
