This course will cover how to increase positive outcomes when having those difficult conversations. The session will cover:
Overcoming the fear
• What’s at stake…why does it need to change?
• What’s a legitimate need to challenge or raise concerns?
• What’s my response to the thought of having a courageous conversation and how do I deal with unhelpful emotions (mine or theirs)?
• What’s the consequences of putting it off?
Getting on with it
• What’s my starting point and intention?
• What do I want / need to get out of the conversation (for me, for them, for the wider team, for the organisation)?
• How do I structure the conversation to meet the need (e.g. challenge behaviours, deal with performance issues, refusing a request, checking in on their wellbeing and mental health etc.)?
• What do I need to do during the conversation (listen, have data / facts, maintain an appropriate communication style, impact of having to do this virtually etc.)?
