GUEST WORKSHOP
With Nyx from Loose Ends

This beginner friendly introductory course will teach you the basics of self tied rope work, with a focus on safety and control. By the end of this class you should feel comfortable with the fundamental building blocks of a tie and know how to combine these into more complicated constructions.
We will also explore:

  • The physical benefits of Shibari,
  • How ties can be adapted to fit a full range of bodies,
  • Basic nerve safety, and
  • How expressive rope is used in shibari performance.

Please wear clothes that are comfortable to move in, while rope is compatible with nearly all clothing you may find it harder to tie over baggy outfits. If you have your own rope and emergency rope cutting tools you are welcome to bring it, but communal rope and EMT shears will be provided.
Mats are provided but feel free to bring your own.

Do note, this class assumes no prior experience, folk with a background in shibari are welcome and every effort will be taken to keep the class engaging for all attendees but the learning objectives will be focused on laying a firm foundation for beginners.
While we are kink positive, this is not a play space.
All ropework comes with inherent dangers, anybody who is seen to be causing unnecessary danger to themselves or others may be asked to leave without warning.

Shibari and Pole both pay respect their shared history in erotic performance and are only more recently being embraced in the mainstream for the broader benefits they offer in artistic and physical expression.
We believe its important to both enjoy the wide benefits we can find in rope while paying homage and respecting the history of intimacy and sensuality practised and cultivated for centuries.
It's a privilege to bring this collaboration together.

Discovery. Playfulness. Exploration. Enjoyment.
Everything that rope has to offer!
Loose Ends is Bristol's friendly rope jam, focused on positive consent, maximising accessibility, and fostering community strength in the rope space. Our aim is always to empower everyone from beginners to experts.
We believe this is best achieved by making rope a place that anyone can feel safe and cared about; so that rope is for everybody and every body.

Onyx is a Bristol based Shibari practitioner and half of the Loose Ends organisers, she's been a rope lover and nerd for over 12 years.
She enjoys using rope as an expressive artistic medium especially in performance, as well as using the calming effects of restrains for meditation and self-soothing.
As a trans woman she believes that feeling comfortable and authentic in your body is of upmost importance and brings this to her Shibari practice.
