'Have you heard', said the Crow? 'No, what!' said the Fox. Well, we wish to introduce Katie to our team in Shield Tree Wood, Katie will be leading term time Forest School session for children 4 and under. Come and listen to our woodland, hear all it has to offer, connect with nature and each other and allow yourself to grow.
Katie is a super forest school leader and early years specialist. She is keen to welcome you and your little ones to the woodland and share the sights and sounds we have to offer.
These outdoor woodland sessions run following the Forest School ethos, where children can explore, discover, create and connect with nature with unstructured child-led play and learning at its heart.
Our experienced Forest School practitioners love nothing more than facilitating opportunities for children to develop woodland skills, work together setting up the campfire and cooking, get creative making woodland crafts or using what nature can offer to inspire some transient art, get muddy in our mud kitchen, relax in our hammocks, investigate and discover in our woodland stream or where-ever the children are inspired to learn.
Sessions are run by experienced Forest School practitioners passionate about supporting your child's personal development and their social, emotional and physical wellbeing.
Babes in arms are free.

CLOTHING GUIDANCE – ALL SEASONS
We will go out in all weather (excluding high winds) so wearing the right clothing is key to a happy child at Forest School. The thickness of clothing will depend on the season. We recommend wellies or boots, thick socks (2 pairs in winter!), long trousers, long sleeved top, waterproof jacket (warm/thick in winter), waterproof over trousers, woolly hat and thick gloves (waterproof if possible) with sun hats for hotter days. An extra layer (jumper or fleece top) is useful in case the weather changes or the wind has a chill. Lots of thin layers are best for warmth and can always be removed if too warm. Please use old clothes and support your child before we start in letting them know that at Forest School they CAN GET DIRTY and you don’t mind!
FOOD / DRINK
We ask that you and your child brings along their own cup to have a drink provided. Snacks will be provided based on dietary requirements.
SUPPORTING HEALTH AND WELLBEING
To support good hand hygiene we have tippy taps installed for lots of handwashing with soap and water as well as hand-gel stations. Your child’s wellbeing and safety are our priority particularly as they transition back to school. BEING Outdoors CIC FS sessions will therefore provide:
• check-ins / check-outs to monitor emotional wellbeing and changes during the session, supporting more self-awareness of emotions.
• time and space to support self-regulation, calming and anxiety reduction, self-expression and connecting to nature
• opportunities for play – supporting learner-led play where children can work through experiences as well nurturing creativity and self-motivation
• a community-centred programme – supporting collaborative learning, increased rapport between adults and children, trust and increased responsibility – encouraging social play in a physically distanced way
• physical wellbeing support -integrating physical activity into our programmes (e.g. tree-climbing, swing, taut-line), increasing movement and more fresh air to support concentration, provide grounding and raise self-esteem.
