After a busy school week, it’s important for kids to have time to unwind, express themselves, and explore their creativity. Friday Crafternoons is an after-school group designed for 5-8 year-olds (4 year olds accepted if they are in P1), where they can dive into fun, hands-on craft projects while focusing on wellbeing. Each session combines creative activities with mindfulness and relaxation techniques, helping kids to de-stress, build confidence, and develop emotional resilience. Whether it’s painting, sculpting, or creating DIY projects, this group encourages self-expression, relaxation, and a sense of accomplishment (with no pressure to attain a certain standard or even complete projects)—all while having fun and connecting with others.
I'm Fiona, your group facilitator. I've been a Primary Teacher for the last 16 years, most recently Support for Learning, where my passion for supporting wellbeing in creative ways was really sparked. I saw the need for young people to have a space to express themselves, away from technology (which of course has its place), whilst feeling safe and comfortable to be who they are.
This group will have a maximum 8 children in it to allow for lots of 1:1 support and guidance, as well as keeping a calm and relaxed atmosphere. If your little one wishes for you to stay with them for the first session to help them settle in that is completely fine but this group is designed to be for children only.
I have a wealth of experience in supporting a range of individual needs. Please let me know if there is anything specific I can do to support your child prior to the group starting.
After the free trial, sessions are £13.50 per session in 8 week blocks.
Your child should wear comfortable clothing and footwear that you don't mind potentially getting a little bit messy.
Water and a healthy snack will be provided (or they can bring their own if they would prefer- no nuts please).
All materials will be provided so no need to bring anything unless your child has materials at home that they particularly like using.
Behaviour policy. I will send more information on this after booking. However, please be aware that children's groups are a phone free zone. Please ensure your child is aware of this. This is very important from the perspective of safety, privacy of others and also to allow them to build their own confidence in their creative abilities. Often, we look to technology to solve problems for us, think of ideas for us etc (which has its benefits of course). In some sessions, I will provide printed images of ideas to inspire but more often I will ask the young people to try to think of their own unique ideas that they can feel proud of creating. Your child can bring their phone with them but it must be switched off and in a pocket/bag. I will ensure I have parental contact details in case of an emergency. This ticket entitles your 5-8 year old (4 year olds if in P1) to a free trial session of the group. After that, the cost will be £90 for a 6 week block (£15 per session).
