Superhero play is one of the most powerful and often misunderstood forms of imaginative play in early childhood. In this 2-hour interactive professional learning session, educators will explore the brain science behind superhero play and how it supports moral development, emotional regulation, and social understanding in children.
Drawing on neuroscience, developmental psychology, and Project Zero’s Thinking Routines, particularly Think–Feel–Care, this session helps educators slow down and make children’s moral thinking visible. Participants will examine how superhero play activates the prefrontal cortex, limbic system, and mirror neuron systems, allowing children to work through questions of right and wrong, power and protection, fairness, and responsibility in developmentally appropriate ways.
