Welcome to your Forest School Assistant journey!
Suitable for: Adults wanting to assist inclusive, learner-centred approaches in the outdoors e.g. Childcare practitioners, health practitioners, teaching professionals and outdoor professionals.
This qualification is intended to introduce the candidate to the underlying ethos and ideas of Forest School and the use of the outdoors to aid learning. It is suitable for all who wish to undertake an introduction to, or have an interest in teaching and learning in this sector. This course is designed to provide an Introduction to the Forest School Pedagogy.
Topics include:
Understanding the Forest School approach to learning, participating in a Forest School experience, woodland species identification, impact of Forest School on the woodland environment and understanding hazards at Forest School.
Assessment tasks will result in each candidate producing a portfolio of evidence meeting each assessment criteria in the unit.
A great way to deliver the Literacy Numeracy Framework ….. using the outdoors!!
Forest School provides a unique way of creating a child centred learning environment which fosters independence and self esteem in children through involvement in stimulating outdoor learning activities that enhance physical, mental, social and cognitive development.
The 3 day course involves:
• 3 days practical including skills assessment.
• Theory is completed via a workbook that will be provided on day one and can be completed at own pace (either handed in at the end of the course or scanned and emailed with submission within 1 month).
• All of each day is spent in the outdoors, please come prepared.

TRAINING DAYS:
You will need to be dressed appropriately for the outdoors as this course will take place entirely outdoors.
There is free parking in the visitor centre car park.
You will need to bring a notebook, pen and lunch with you for the first 2 days of the course. There is also a cafe 2 minutes from the site if you would like to purchase lunch there during the first two days. Teas, coffees and hot chocolates will be provided throughout the course. Please bring a mug/cup.
During observation days of our Forest School sessions, a list of allergy items to avoid bringing will be provided.
