GROW: Preaching

For lay people interested in learning more about what it means to preach and how sermons may be constructed. It will be especially helpful for those who have completed Foundations and who are exploring their next steps and want to learn more about specific aspects of ministry.
The 5 sessions offer a basic introduction to the key concepts behind preaching, how to work with scriptural texts, how others preach, developing narrative and presenting to an audience. The final two sessions will offer an opportunity to present a talk you have written using learning from the course. There will be an option to attend either 28th October or 25th November to present your practice talk (although you will be welcome at both).
Please note: if you would like to speak in the sermon slot of a church service, this can only be done through discussion and collaboration with the incumbent and ministry team. We would also expect all who are taking on lay ministry roles to have completed Foundations. You must be licensed in a role that includes preaching to deliver sermons on a regular basis. Please speak with your incumbent if you are thinking of enrolling in this Introduction to Preaching course.
