The Learn to Lead Trad Climbing course prepares you to confidently take the sharp end - leading climbs by placing protection, building secure belays, and moving decisively on rock. You’ll develop the skills to confidently place and trust nuts, cams, and hexes.
-Placing and assessing traditional protection on lead (nuts, cams, hexes)
-Building secure, equalised anchors and belay systems-
-Managing stances and changeovers for block leading and swinging leads
-Efficient rope management and clipping techniques
-Managing rope drag and extending runners
-Lead climbing movement and route-reading on real rock
-Dynamic risk assessing and decision-making while leading
-Understanding fall potential and lead fall dynamics
-Developing psychological strategies and managing fear on the sharp end
-Belaying a lead climber and bringing up a second
16+ (Under 18's need be accompanied by an adult/parent)
1:2 Ratio | 4 Spaces per course
Minimum 2 bookings for course to run
Ideally, you should have:
Belayed at least 10 times, and
Seconded 10+ outdoor trad routes at VDiff or above,
OR
Led 15+ sport routes (indoors or outdoors) at F4+ or above
A Trad Progresion Course is a great stepping stone
Multi-Pitch Climbing or Trad Development may be your next step after this course
Harness, helmet, ropes, and all climbing hardware
Bring your own if you have it
Comfortable rock shoes and suitable outdoor clothing (we do not provide rock shoes)
