Working with industry professionals, this session will help you start to develop your skills in Acting and Performance. Through games, practical tasks and script work, you’ll have a chance to explore different acting techniques and get a sense of what it’s like to study at Mechanics’ Performing Arts.

Working with staff that have fulfilled different roles within the animal industry, this session will be practical learning about how to meet the welfare needs for a range of animals.

In this session, you will discover what is studied on the Art and Design course at Wakefield College and have the opportunity to work with different mediums and express your ideas in a visual format. You’ll be working in the Art and Design studios exploring different techniques just like it would be as a student studying Art at Wakefield College.

The Games industry is filled with a variety of different job roles and skills, from programmers to designers to artists and more. During this session you will experience one or more of these roles within the process of making a video game.

In this session, you will experience what it is like be a Nursery Practitioner. You will look at what the course will entail and what professional qualities you would need to venture into this career. This will be a practical session that will involve tasks that would be seen within childcare practices.

The Web industry is filled with a variety of different job roles and skills, from web developers to web designers to back end developers and more. During this session you will experience one or more of these roles within the process of making a web site.

In this session, you will discover what is studied on the Fashion and Textile course at Wakefield College and have the opportunity to work with different mediums and express your ideas in a visual format. You’ll be working in the Fashion and Textile studios exploring different techniques just like it would be as a student Fashion at Wakefield College.

Discover what is studied on the Graphic Design course at Wakefield College! In this session, you will have the opportunity to work with different mediums and express your ideas in a visual format. You’ll be working in the Graphics studio exploring different techniques and what it is like to study Graphics at College.

This session will look at the different career paths you could take as part of the Health and Social care route if you chose to study this at Post 16. In the session, you will complete practical tasks that will support your understanding of working within Health and Social Care settings.

In this session, the first hour will be an interactive cooking session which will then lead onto a one hour interactive barista, cocktail and mocktail session. This is a great session for anyone interested in food and finding out what it would be like to work in this industry.

In this session, you will locate a short scene from your favourite film/TV show, study the shots, and then recreate the scene, double checking your angles, viewpoints and framing shot-by-shot. The aim of the session is for you to develop your visual storytelling capabilities using creative media methods, skills and techniques.

Working with industry professionals, this session will develop your creative music production skills. You will use industry standard software to create a piece of music.

Through games, vocal work and dance, you’ll have a chance to explore different Musical Theatre techniques and get a sense of what it’s like to study at Mechanics’ Performing Arts.

Have you ever wondered how you might take the ultimate form of selfie? Have you ever wanted to work in photographic studio? This practical session will enable you to get away from the automatic settings on cameras and take a more professional approach. We will address the basic camera controls and how light is captured as well as the underlying principles of composition. During the session, you will devise ideas for your own self-portraits and utilise the studio to realise your ideas which will consist of digital image manipulation within the Photoshop framework. You will learn to identify tools within the interface and use them to manipulate your own self-portraits in abstract and possibly surreal ways.

Working in the Uniformed Services requires a specific type of person with a specific set of skills. You will meet members of the team who will tutor you while in college and through a series of tasks and challenges you will learn how to develop yourself and get a sense of what it is like to study a Public Service course.

In this session, you will complete a number of sessions throughout the day designed to provide you with an idea of what its like to study sport at Wakefield College. The day will vary between practical based sports activity sessions and an introduction to the theory behind the many aspects of performance.

We will be exploring the exciting and ever-changing world of travel and tourism in these two-hour sessions. You will meet the Travel and Tourism Team, partake in group activities and explore your favourite holiday destination- starting to think more like a member of the tourism industry. You will also create your ideal island and start to develop the skills needed to become a real-life travel advisor.
