The 108 Community Kirtan

The 108 — Soul Tending Through Mantra, Kīrtan & Sacred Sound

A space to come exactly as you are.

The 108 is a gathering for tending the soul through the ancient medicine of sacred Sanskrit sound — coming together in community to sing, grieve, soften, pray, open, rest and remember.

This is not about having to arrive feeling peaceful, joyful or spiritually “together”. Tears are welcome. Grief is welcome. Numbness is welcome. Joy, laughter and ecstasy are welcome. You are welcome.

Together we will journey with the Gāyatrī Mantra, one of the most ancient and luminous mantras of the Vedic tradition, allowing its sound and vibration to carry us beyond the thinking mind and into a deeper place of listening and stillness.

Our evening will include:

• A brief opening sharing circle — an opportunity to arrive and be witnessed in community
• Traditional Sanskrit invocations and an introduction to Gāyatrī
• Sounding the Gāyatrī Mantra 108 times together
• Time in silence and stillness, allowing the practice to settle through the body
• Space for integration and energetic closing
• A final sharing circle to support us in gently returning to the world

There is something profoundly powerful about travelling this kind of inner landscape together. We do not have to fix or transcend what is moving through us. We can bring it into the circle and allow sacred sound, breath, silence and community to hold us as we move through it.

At times the journey may feel devotional, at times meditative, at times like prayer or grief ceremony. There may be tears. There may be joy. There may simply be stillness.

All of this belongs.

No previous experience of Sanskrit, mantra or kīrtan is needed. You are warmly welcome whether you sing loudly, whisper, listen, cry, sit in silence or simply allow yourself to be held by the sound.
