Skill: Watercolour Painting
Overview: Students will explore diverse watercolour techniques, drawing inspiration from Impressionist masters, including Vincent Van Gogh, Gustav Klimt and Claude Monet. Through experimentation with layering and composition, they will develop a project sketchbook to document their process, culminating in a richly textured, botanically-themed final piece. Each class is limited to a maximum of 12 students, ensuring focused learning and individual support throughout the session.
Course Length: 6 weeks
Week 1: Watercolour Painting
Students will explore foundations of watercolour painting and its varying colours, building confidence in handling the medium.
Week 2: Drawing Flowers
Introducing observational drawing skills, students will study floral forms, composition, and detail, translating their sketches into expressive line work.
Week 3: Watercolour Techniques
A deeper dive into specialised watercolour approaches, including layering, resist methods, and expressive brushwork to enhance texture.
Week 4: Combining Drawings and Techniques
Students will integrate their sketches and watercolour methods, refine compositions and develop a unique and personal final piece.
Week 5: Final Piece Construction
Guided by their artistic explorations, students will plan and begin constructing a final artwork, incorporating the skills learned throughout the course.
Week 6: Final Piece Completion
Students will bring their final piece to completion, refining details and presentation while reflecting on their creative journey.
Course Planning: Our courses are thoughtfully designed by our Creative Director and founder, Kitty, who brings over 17 years of classroom teaching experience. Each project introduces students to a renowned artist and their creative influences, inspiring them to develop their own interpretation. By drawing from historical and contemporary inspirations, students gain technical skill and artistic confidence, culminating in a unique and expressive final artwork. Kitty is fully insured, certified in First Aid, and holds an DBS check—providing a safe and welcoming environment for all learners.
This structured course balances technical learning with creative autonomy, ensuring students feel empowered to experiment and grow in their artistic practice.
Materials: All necessary materials and equipment will be provided by the studio, just bring your creativity!
Arrival: Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the session starts to settle in and prepare for your workshop.
Parking & Access: On-site parking is available. To ensure smooth traffic flow and safety, please enter via the Farm Gate (opposite Holdfast Lane) and exit via the House Gate. This helps minimise congestion on the main road and maintains a safe environment for all visitors.
