Perhaps you’ve done a few bits of beats here and there but don’t know what to do
with them? Well, HELLO! Here’s a bunch of connections that will open up a whole world of
dynamic play, helping you fall in love with dynamics and increasing the likelihood of you actually using dynamics in your next act!
In this workshop with Freya Pellie (@pelliefey), we’ll refine your beat technique and expand your dynamic vocabulary, focusing on dynamic transitions and working through turns, beats from alternate grips (e.g., mixed grip, elbows, and armpits), dynamic grip switches, release-based drops (or the preps for these), and ways of finding momentum as you exit familiar static poses.
You’ll leave with some fast-paced combos as well as an increased understanding of mechanics to help you create your own custom dynamic combos going forward.
10 second dead hang.
Ability to get back into the hoop after hanging from the top of the hoop.
Amazon.
Some prior experience of front-back beats and bell beats (on any apparatus).
A regular aerial practice (i.e., shoulders which are very used to hanging!).
Some prior experience of armpit and elbow hangs (doubles; singles not required) .
Single-leg roll (aka single skinner roll aka monkey roll aka single hox roll etc etc…)
This workshop is intended for those at an intermediate level on hoop.
It is suitable for adults but is also open to our younger hoop students in our progression classes who meet the pre-requisites and are 14+ years old. Please note our smallest hoop for this workshop is 90cm. Please email youthcircus@greentop.org to enquire about your child attending before signing them up.
If you’re unsure whether it’s suitable for you, or if you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.
Once you've booked one to the workshop, it would be helpful if you could:
Briefly outline your prior experience (if any) with dynamics - this can be on hoop or on another aerial apparatus.
Mention any particular goals for the workshop or specific content requests. (Freya will try to cater to these where possible but can't promise she'll cover all of them).
Freya (@pelliefey) is a multidisciplinary artist specialising in aerial hoop and rope, with a penchant for limb-based brain teasers and a tendency to lean towards the more peculiar side of aerial. Freya has performed and taught internationally, delivering a range of workshops and masterclasses, and teaches regularly on the Professional Development and Foundation intensive training courses at Aerial Edge. As a coach, Freya encourages students to find their own creative style and voice, instilling technique and thorough understanding to safely equip them for their own further exploration in a way that resonates with both their body and being.
