Women Inspired - Inclusive Intercultural Communication Skills for Healthcare Leaders

This session is brought to you on behalf of South Yorkshire Women Inspired Network.
The Network exists to inspire, empower, and elevate women from all backgrounds to reach their full potential. It offers a dedicated space where women can connect, lead, and thrive, supported by mentorship, shared learning, and leadership development tailored to their lived experiences. We offer regular free webinars, courses, inspirational talks and events, as well as career mentoring and other offers.

Using first-hand accounts from international employees, this engaging and thought-provoking webinar explores the essential role of clear communication in culturally and linguistically diverse teams. It highlights some of the unique challenges posed by language barriers and cultural differences and offers practical strategies to bridge potential communication gaps, thereby improving team cohesion, staff wellbeing and ultimately patient safety. The webinar explores topics such as communication speed and processing time, figurative language, small talk, and differing perspectives on workplace roles, expectations, and the use of other languages.

Zanne Gaynor and Kathryn Alevizos have published two books on clear communication, both of which were shortlisted for Business Book Awards. They run Acrobat Global, a company that provides training for culturally and linguistically diverse organisations with a particular focus on more inclusive and empathetic communication. Their clients in healthcare include NHS Trusts, Training Hubs, GP Faculties and private social care providers. They are also keynote speakers and regularly present at conferences and other healthcare events around the UK. Their articles have been published in various publications including the Nursing Times.
