Ashtanga Wanderer
Ashtanga Yoga & Mountaineering Retreat
24th -31st October 2025
Ryder Hall, Ambleside, Cumbria. https://www.rydalhall.org/about/thegrot

The “Ashtanga Wanderer” retreat in the English Lake District is a unique blend of dynamic yoga practice and exhilarating mountaineering in one of Britain’s most stunning natural landscapes. Designed for adventurers and yoga enthusiasts alike, this retreat focuses on the Ashtanga yoga tradition, known for its flowing sequences and meditative breathwork. Mornings start with energising Ashtanga sessions in a cosy bunkhouse where participants can connect deeply with their breath while surrounded by sweeping views of majestic mountains and tranquil waters. Guided by Marque & Jake, these classes will address individual concerns and needs, making them accessible for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike.

After a delicious brunch we will head off to explore the Lake District’s dramatic terrain. Guided mountaineering adventures will take participants up iconic peaks like Scafell Pike or Helvellyn, traversing rugged trails and ridgelines. Along the way, there are moments to pause and soak in the serene beauty of glacial lakes, ancient woodlands, and expansive valleys. Each climb is an opportunity to practice mindfulness in motion, blending the discipline of yoga with the thrill of outdoor adventure. Evenings conclude with hearty, locally sourced meals and fireside storytelling, creating a sense of community and shared accomplishment. The “Ashtanga Wanderer” retreat offers not just a physical journey but a soulful exploration of balance, resilience, and connection with nature.

Our journey together will take us into the heart of the English Lake District and the Cumbrian mountains, an area of outstanding natural beauty and an Unesco world heritage site. Our home for the next six days is the beautiful Rydal Hall, located between Ambleside and Grasmere and ideally located to a range of stunning mountain hikes and trails. The accommodation is simple, a bunkhouse https://www.rydalhall.org/stay/bunkhouse with four large multiple occupancy rooms, large communal area, galley kitchen, shower facilities, drying rooms etc.

Ashtanga Wanderer aims to take you back to a more basic lifestyle and away from the distractions of day to day life and modern society. We will engage with nature through mindful activity, which extends beyond our yoga mat
into the mountains we climb, the rivers we swim in, the food we prepare and eat, the company we keep and finally back to our normal daily lives with hopefully a slightly different outlook and perspective.
