Canine buried odor detection is a specialized skill where trained detection dogs use their advanced olfactory senses to locate scents from objects or underground substances. These dogs are trained to detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released by buried items, such as human remains, explosives, archaeological artifacts, or environmental conservation. The training teaches the dogs to distinguish target odors from background scents in various soil types and environmental conditions.
Protocols to teach dogs the specific task of buried target detection have been developed and proven effective in the field. Paul will demonstrate the preparation and presentation of training samples for utilization in training. At the end of this seminar, attendees will understand the affects of burying odor on the target scent profiles and the specific protocols used to train the dogs through presentations and practical demonstrations. Attendees with dogs can conduct some initial training utilizing the prepared samples.
This is a handler spot and target odour will be Kong if your dog works a different odour please let us know.
