OVERVIEW
For mountain walkers looking to progress into grade I scrambles.  This course looks at the necessary skills for managing your safety in steep and exposed terrain, allowing you to take new and interesting lines to the summits. 
We will be looking at the fundamentals of scrambling movement and looking to build confidence to move over rocky steps, loose ground and steep scree.
Join us for an invigorating journey into the world of scrambling. This introduction to scrambling course will allow you to embark on a thrilling adventure that will expand your horizons from mountain walker to avid scrambler! 

COURSE OUTLINE
Gear Introduction
Choosing footwear, guidebooks, ropes etc
Basic Scrambling Techniques
Footwork, Handholds, and Balance
Route Selection and Terrain Assessment
Route reading and what to look for on the move
Building Skills and Confidence
Face Climbing, Chimneys, and Gullies and other scrambling techniques
Safety Protocols and Communication
Using guidebooks and resources, planning a scramble, finding the route, calling for rescue

SKILLS COVERED
Fundamental walking, climbing & movement skills
Moving unroped in Grade I terrain
Guidebooks and gear
Route finding
Assessing risk and making judgement
Spotting and looking after team members
Safeguarding descent​

Level: Beginner, Intermediate

Instructions

This course is aimed at hill walkers looking to experience scrambling and venture onto graded mountaineering ground. We will look at how to operate on grade I scrambles with safe and efficient movement.
You will need to wear suitable outdoor clothing and have appropriate mountain footwear (boots).
