SUP Club is GET OUT’s regular stand-up paddleboarding programme on the River Lea in East London, delivered in partnership with Leaside.
The sessions are about much more than simply learning to paddleboard. Throughout the programme, young people build confidence on the water, explore the River Lea, and spend time outdoors as part of a supportive group.
Participants will learn to paddleboard safely and develop their skills while also taking part in activities such as filming on the water using GoPros, exploring the river and its wildlife, and capturing stories about their experience. Some of this material will contribute to a short film documenting the programme.
SUP Club is designed to help young people:
• Build confidence and resilience
• Improve physical wellbeing
• Strengthen their connection with nature
• Develop teamwork and social skills
• Learn about the river and the environment
Sessions take place on calm, sheltered waterways and may include games, environmental exploration, storytelling, and group reflection.
We welcome everyone — from complete beginners to confident paddlers.
All sessions are delivered by qualified Paddle UK instructors and experienced youth workers. Staff are DBS-checked and first aid trained, and sessions operate under robust safeguarding and safety procedures.
SUP Club places are funded through charitable support. While sessions can be booked individually, we strongly encourage participants to commit to the full programme of dates to get the most from the experience and to build confidence and skills over time.
Our aim is simple: to help young people build confidence, skills, and a meaningful connection with London’s blue spaces.

Important information
Sessions start promptly, so please arrive on time. Late arrivals may not be admitted.
Participants must be comfortable around water (they do not need to be strong swimmers).
This is a drop-off activity. Parents and guardians are welcome to drop participants off at the start of the session and return to collect them at the end.
A completed consent and medical form is required before taking part.
In extreme weather or unsafe river conditions, sessions may be adapted or rescheduled for safety.
Photography and filming
During SUP Club, young people may have the opportunity to use GoPros to film on the water and help create a short film about the River Lea and their experience.
GET OUT and Leaside may also take photographs or short video clips during sessions to celebrate achievements, share programme impact with partners, and promote future activities.
Media consent is collected as part of the sign-up process. Because filming is an important feature of this project, we strongly encourage families to consider consenting. If consent is declined, your child will still be able to participate fully and we will ensure they are not featured in any published media.
All images and footage are stored securely in line with safeguarding and data protection policies.
