Mighty Oaks runs every weekend during term time. This session is recommended for children from 5 to 12 years, to make new friends, play games and practice new skills. Run by experienced and trained outdoor leaders and members of the PVG Scheme. If your child is slightly older and wants to take part as a 'Junior Leader' (whereby they take on more responsibilities in assisting the Leaders and complete the Junior Foresters Award) then do get in touch.
Each week the children help the leaders design their session as a group, with activities such as: den building, fire lighting, woodworking, knife skills, treasure hunts, team games, gardening and animal tracking. As well as plenty of time to explore the rope swings, our woodland play gym and climbable trees!
Based at the Little Acorns Wood and Meadow, Auchincruive. We have access to over 45 acres of wonderful mature woodland, ponds, river, wildflower meadow, walled garden, allotment and more! We also have use of a cosy yurt and shelters for the more extreme weather.
Parents are welcome to attend to settle new children where required.
Please note that we are unable to provide 1:1 supervision for children with additional support needs. Attending children must be able to follow basic safety instructions such as keeping in boundaries, safe tool use with guidance and supervision and road safety. If you need to remain at sessions to support your child please get in touch to discuss further.
WHAT WILL MY CHILD NEED TO BRING / WEAR?
A drinking bottle
A snack
A hand towel
A plastic cup
Suitable outdoor clothing - wellies, full waterproofs, and thermal layers, hats and gloves in cold weather; sun hats in warm weather.
You may choose to bring spare clothes - getting wet and muddy is likely!
*cooking snacks and warm drinks on the campfire is a regular occurrence and clean drinking water is available on site.
WEATHER
Our holistic learning ethos is all about play outdoors no matter the weather. There is no such thing as bad weather as the saying goes... We have plenty of shelters available, as well as a yurt and any that the children choose to build!
However, there are certain weather conditions that will affect the running of the group where deemed unsafe- namely high winds (above 40mph), electrical storms and severe snow and ice.
The staff will stay informed of the weather conditions. We will always try to give 24 hours notice of closure, however we may need to cancel on the day if weather changes suddenly / overnight. We will inform parents by text and email. In the case of cancellation we aim to reschedule the session.
