You are warmly welcome to join us at this year’s Little Acorn’s Walk by Lantern Light.
The lantern walk provides an opportunity for us to come together for a seasonal celebration and enjoy the magic of lantern light as we prepare ourselves for the cold days and long nights of Winter. The lantern is a symbol of each person’s inner light that they will carry with them into the winter months.
This event will start at 4pm on Saturday 9th November and will begin with seasonal games in the meadow for all the family to enjoy. We will then light our handmade lanterns and form a procession as we walk through the darkness around the special trees within the arboretum. Participants will be encouraged to sing and join in the lantern walk songs. We will then gather around the campfire. We will symbolically show our own generosity with live music and singing by musician Ken O'Hara and the sharing of a campfire snack of vegetable soup and cake.
During the Little Acorn’s regular groups in the preceding week we will be making our own lanterns which will then be used for our Lantern Walk.
This is a family festival so the children remain in your care and supervision at all times.
Sorry, dogs are not permitted at this event.
WHAT WILL WE NEED TO BRING / WEAR?
It is advisable to wrap up warmly and to wear wellies as we are highly likely to encounter mud.
We recommend bringing a head torch/hand torch. You may wish to bring a camping chair for a comfortable seat around the campfire. We also recommend bringing a cup for a hot drink and a mug for soup.
It can be helpful to dress children in clothing with light reflectors or high viz vest (we will have some spare).
If you haven't made a lantern during the sessions with ourselves then feel free to bring one along with you- we will also have some spares and will post a tutorial video soon.
WEATHER
Our holistic learning ethos is all about play outdoors in all weathers. There is no such thing as bad weather: just bad clothing! We have a large shelter over the campfire and a few more on site.
However, there are certain weather conditions that will affect the running of the event such as very high winds and electrical storms. If the event can't go ahead for safety reasons we will firstly aim to reschedule and if this isn't possible we will cancel the event and offer refunds.
PRAMS/BUGGIES
At this time of year we recommend off-road buggies or babies in slings if possible- the path and terrain can be muddy and uneven.
POLICIES
We can explain and show you all our policies and many can be found on our website for parents to view, under ‘Policies’.
