Hi, I'm Leanne , founder and director' Little Seashells Messy Play' formally known a make a Mess with Little
I set up my new buisness in September 2019.
I'm a mummy to 2 children, Marty 8 and Rosa 5
Little Seashells Messy Playwas inspired by my children's love of learning through sensory and messy play, my experience in early years and the lack of local children's community groups.
I wanted to share my passion and provide a fun learning space for young children while giving parents the opportunity to 'get out' meet other local patents/ carers whilst gaining knowledge of different ways to learn and play with their children.
I have had a career in early years since leaving collage many moons ago, from working as a nanny, holiday children's clubs, nursery management and currently an outstanding OFSTED registered childminder.
I'm fully qualified, first aider and DBS checked.
I run my sessions every Monday and Thursday 10-11am in term time for children age 6 months to 5 years. And every Thursday 10-11am for children 8yrs and under in the school holidays. At St Peters Church Community Hall Greenhill Herne Bay.
Every week is a different theme. From sesonal to superheros.
I provide wet and dry sensory trays, large mark making, playdough, water play, crafts and a small toy area.
My sessions have been carefully planned following the eyfs to encourage babies and toddlers to explore a wide range of new textures and manipulate different materials through touch.
Not only does messy play enhance a child's cognitive development and learning, but it also improves a child's physical development as well. Children learn best through experimental and discovering.
Some children love messy play right away, while others can take a little longer to gain confidence and feel comfortable coming into contact with new textures and materials. Im are conscious of the fact that children develop and learn at different rates, and in many different ways. So provide a good variety of different sensory experiences during a session.
People learn new things in different ways; some visually by watching others, some aurally by listening to information and others kinaesthetically by physically doing a task. Messy play appeals to the kinaesthetic learner who isn’t content sitting, passively listening, but would rather be physically involved. The vast majority of babies and toddlers are kinaesthetic learners, hence their enthusiasm for messy play!
Allowing children to explore different materials and textures helps them to learn about the mechanics of the world around them… it might just look like a bit of a giggle but for babies and toddlers messy play is serious learning!
Not only do children develop early skills in mark making, but they also gain an insight into the basics of science and maths; learning about gravity, cause and effect, the difference between liquids and solids and how different substances react in different situations.
So it's not all about just making a 'mess' !!
