Life Drawing Essentials: The Adrian Dutton Method (6 Weeks)

Details

Master the art of the human figure through a unique, tonal approach developed over 25 years of professional practice.

This six-week course is designed to take you beyond the basics of anatomy. Led by Adrian Dutton, you will gain unique insights into the "connective tissue" of drawing—learning how to see and capture the poetic relationships between form, energy, and space.

Why this course?
Unlike standard life drawing classes that focus on isolated figures, the Adrian Dutton Method emphasises Context and Volume. You will learn to draw not just the person, but the atmosphere they inhabit.

You will explore:

Tonal Mastery: Shifting the focus to volume, form, and spatial relationships to create three-dimensional depth.

The Power of Context: Creating a deep sense of the environment in which your subject exists.

Poetic Relationships: Finding the "echoes" of shapes and the rhythm of lines to create a dynamic composition.

Energy & Contrast: Using tonal tension to turn a static sketch into a complex, professional work of art.

"I don't just teach you how to draw a body; I teach you how to see the harmony between line, light, and the space they occupy." — Adrian Dutton

Meet Your Tutor: Adrian Dutton
Adrian trained at the Royal Drawing School under the influential mentorship of Francis Hoyland, an inspiration that continues to inform his artistic practice today.

While deeply committed to his own work, Adrian’s primary passion for the past 25 years has been the London Life Drawing community. As an independent educator, he has been commissioned to teach for some of the world’s most prestigious cultural institutions, including The British Museum, The National Portrait Gallery, The Barbican, and The Courtauld Institute.

His expertise is also sought after by the creative industry’s leading firms, having trained teams at Hundred Star Games, Untold Studios, and Pollard Thomas Edwards Architects.

"The most rewarding part of teaching is watching a student realize they are part of a grand, human endeavor. The moment you begin to practice, you are standing alongside the great artists of history—learning to see the world more beautifully, more honestly, and more profoundly."
