Level 1 Online Workshop
Level 1 Makaton Workshop, teaching stages 1 & 2 of the Core Vocabulary signs & symbols. You will learn over 140 signs.
Level 1 Workshop is the starting point for your Makaton journey. It is recommended for people who need to use Makaton at home and in their work, to develop the communication skills of others.
Content
Level 1 training provides a practical introduction to the Makaton Language Programme and a wider understanding of learning and communication difficulties. The Level 1 Workshop include how to start using Makaton in everyday situations; immediate needs, home, familiar people, food, events, activities and objects. You will also discover hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use to maximise communication.
Delivery method
Online workshops are delivered in real time in a virtual meeting room via Zoom - You will receive the Zoom link for the workshop via an email from signingtogethermakatontutor@gmail.com after booking and full payment has been received. Please look out for this email (also check your junk folder) as it contains important information ahead of the workshop.
Duration
Online workshops comprise of approximately seven learning hours, dependant on group size. Please note timings of the day may vary depending on group size & previous experience or knowledge.
Entry criteria
No previous experience required for a Level 1 Workshop. Participants must be over 16 years of age. Please raise at time of booking if you have any challenges or additional needs, so reasonable adjustments can be made to support your learning & participation.
Study materials
You will receive a Participant's Manual, which includes the Makaton symbols and signs that you learn in the workshop. Please note that bookings close two full weeks prior to the workshop date to allow ample time for your participant manual to arrive, through the post to the shipping address provided at the time of booking. Please ensure you have your Participants Manual when attending the workshop, as you will be unable to proceed through the workshop without the manual. If you require International postage of your participant manual to anywhere outside of the UK, please email signingtogethermakatontutor@gmail.com before placing your booking to ensure you are able to join the workshop Internationally.
You will also be given a certificate upon completion of the workshop. Please remember to keep your Level 1 training certificate in case you want to attend further Makaton training.

After completing Level 1 training you can continue on your Makaton journey by attending Level 2 training.

Level: Beginner
You will need a good internet connection to ensure Zoom works well, as well as a big enough screen to see all participants (this can be up to 11 others). Ideally, a computer/laptop screen with camera and microphone function, as you will need to be seen and heard clearly for assessment of your signing. Mobile phones are NOT suitable as you will need both hands free and visible throughout the workshop and during group activities you will need to see all participants.
Please ensure your environment is quiet and distraction free.
