Synergy - Mark Smith Masterclass (16+)

Details

In this inclusive and accessible dance workshop, you'll see a short performance of Synergy, followed by a creative session based on the performance. Led by Mark Smith and dancers, you'll learn some British Sign Language (BSL) and sections from the piece, and work creatively together.

This Masterclass is for dancers, teachers, participants of our adult classes, dance artists, Deaf, disabled and non-disabled people, anyone interested in dance and learning something new.

Synergy, led by renowned Deaf choreographer Mark Smith (Deaf Men Dancing, DMD+, The Colour Purple Leicester Curve/Birmingham Hippodrome, Hedwig and the Angry Inch Leeds Playhouse, Ramps On The Moon, Graeae Theatre) in collaboration with South Africa’s Musa Motha (Rambert, Peaky Blinders, Britain’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent, Fantasy League), was made as an outdoor performance exploring the profound impact of climate change on Deaf and disabled individuals. It's toured extensively and was recently performed at Greenwich and Docklands International Festival.

Mark and a team of distinctive dancers, create a unique performance that delves into individual practices and collective power, a cross-fertilisation among the dancers, continually subverting the tonal essence of the piece.

Our Masterclasses are supported by Keep Moving. Keep Moving is produced by Fabric, generously supported by United by 2022, as part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Legacy Enhancement Fund through West Midlands Combined Authority.
