BEATMOTION WORKSHOP: AKEIM TOUSSAINT BUCK

Come join our full day workshop with Akeim based around his developing practice of 10 years: BEATMOTION.

Akeim invites professional dancers, professional musicians and individuals training in both fields or/and people enthusiastic and passionate to explore. There really is no barrier to doing this work so I invite you all to come and boogie with me for a day of song and dance making in the heart of Leeds.

For this workshop I will be looking specifically at the below overarching elements of Beatmotion with a closer look at the power of S&S (silence and stillness), sound effecting, accompanying and spherical dancing.

AUTHENTICITY: via the voice and movement. Exploring how to go beyond personal thresholds of our dance by disrupting the dance with the voice and visa versa.

INTERNAL LISTENING: Dancers can imagine movement without physically moving. Composers hear melody without having to play any instruments and then they vocalize these melodies whilst writing the notation. In this element of the practice, it’s about thinking it and then doing it without judgement.

SCORE BUILDING: Within dance it is being aware of the physical space we take up to create a nuanced experience, playing with the spaces between ourselves and others. Within music it’s about the sonic spaces we take up, we can repeat a pattern that leaves enough space for others to exists, then disrupt this to create something of intrigue, this is creating an ecosystem of sound and dance.
