Naill ochr i afon fechan diddim, dinod, mae dwy gymuned mewnfudol, a’r ddinas ble maen nhw’n byw wedi cefnu arnynt. Daethant yno i geisio bywyd gwell, rhag pogrom a newyn.

Ymhle mae “yma”? Yn wir, gall “yma” fod yn unrhyw le, ond yn yr achos hwn, gadewch i ni ddweud dinas Manceinion yn y 19eg ganrif, a’r afon Irk sy’n llifo drwyddi. Er bod eu diwylliannau’n wahanol iawn i’w gilydd, mae mwy yma i’w huno na sydd yn eu gwahanu, er gwaetha’r afon lygredig sydd rhyngddynt.

Yn y sioe gig-theatr hyn, rydym yn dychmygu dau fyd cerddorol yn uno, y Klezmer Iddewig, a cherddoriaeth Wyddelig draddodiadol, ac yn eu harchwilio’n drwyadl yn eu holl lawenydd, tristwch, cariad ac ysbryd dawnsiadwy heintus, er efallai’n amhersain ar y gwrandawiad cyntaf, mae Y Mwrllwch yn archwilio'r mannau cyfarfod hynod rhwng gwahanol gerddoriaeth ddawns a diwylliant, gyda band gwerin/fusion 7-8 aelod, straeon byrion a chelf weledol drawiadol. Mae’n archwilio dirgelwch, chwithdod, a chyd barch diwylliannau sy’n cydrannu’r un lleoliad.

Fe syfrdanwyd Manceinion gan y sioe yn 2016 gan berfformio gyda’r cerddorion Gwyddelig chwedlonol Mike McGoldrick, Dezi Donnolly, ag Ange Durcani i dai llawn dop yn y Manchester Jewish Museum.

Ers hynny, mae wedi perfformio yng ngogledd ddwyrain Lloegr, gan gyrraedd rowndiau terfynol y Manchester Culture Awards a chystadleuaeth Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Open Stage yn 2022.

Rydym yn falch iawn o gael cyflwyno ein perfformiad cyntaf yn y Gymraeg yn Shed.

English/Saesnag
Either side of an innocuous, unremarkable river live two immigrant communities shunned by the city in which they live; yet, these communities came here in search of better times away from pogrom and famine.

Where is “here”? Well… “here” can be anywhere, but for the sake of argument, let’s say 19th-Century Manchester and the River Irk that flows through it. Though their cultures seem wildly different, there is more that unites them that divides them, in spite of the noxious river between them.

In this imagined meeting-of-worlds gig theatre, the musical fusion of Jewish Klezmer and Irish Trad is explored in all its joy, melancholy, love, sadness, and infectious danceability; although perhaps discordant on first hearing, Amid the Mirk Over the Irk explores the natural and quirky points of intersection between these two deeply personally significant folk dance musics and – by association – their cultures, through their 7-8 piece folk-fusion band, short stories, and evocative visuals. It explores the intrigue, awkwardness, and respect of unfamiliar cultures sharing the same space.

The show took Manchester by storm in 2016 when it played to full houses at the Manchester Jewish Museum featuring Irish trad legends Mike McGoldrick, Dezi Donnolly, and Ange Durcan.

Since then it has played around the North West, reaching the finals for Manchester Culture Awards and Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Open Stage competition in 2022.

We are proud to present this, our first Welsh language performance at Shed. English translation of spoken word sections can be provided.
