What to Expect:
Many people arrive on the dance-floor holding tension in their bodies, emotionally numb, or stuck in “freeze” mode whether from trauma, chronic stress, or simply the habit of bracing against life. This can show up as inertia or resistance or overthinking - an avoidance of vulnerability at all costs. And here’s the thing - the dance-floor is a metaphor for life - how you move is how you live!
Using the 5Rhythms® Waves Map and by paying conscious attention to one's thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and the surrounding environment, moment by moment, this workshop gently guides you from the protective amour of inertia and tension into embodied presence, emotional expression, and somatic freedom.
That means I will guide you towards safely re-inhabiting your body, awakening your breath, and dissolving your inner barriers to your true and genuine self expression. No prior experience required. All bodies welcome. We move. We sit. We meditate. We share. (We will not be dancing continuously for the entire 3 hours!)

Led by Stuart Phillips, an Elm Grove Yogi for 10+ years and an accredited 5Rhythms Teacher, he found 5Rhythms in 2007 and after completing the Teacher Training in 2018, he leads classes and workshops in the UK and Europe.
This workshop counts as 3 hours towards Waves teacher training prerequisites
About 5Rhythms®
The 5Rhythms comprise a simple movement practice, the foundation of the late Gabrielle Roth’s work, a series of healing maps for the body, heart, mind, soul and spirit.
Designed to release the dancer that lives in every body, no matter what its shape, size, age, limitations and experience.
To find your dance is to find yourself, at your most fluid and creative level. While the practice itself is the essence of simplicity, it has the power to catalyze deep healing and creative expression.
The primary teaching of this work is: If you put the psyche in motion, it will heal itself.
The 5Rhythms are flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical and stillness. They come together to create the Wave, a movement meditation practice.
Rather than having steps to follow, each rhythm is a different energy field in which you find your own expression and choreography, thereby stretching your imagination as well as your body.
Each rhythm is a teacher and you can expect to meet different and sometimes unknown aspects of yourself as your dance unfolds and your practice of the rhythms deepens over time.
The 5Rhythms – Flowing Staccato Chaos Lyrical Stillness – are states of Being.
They are a map to everywhere we want to go, on all planes of consciousness – inner and outer, forward and back, physical, emotional and intellectual.
They are markers on the way back to a real self, a vulnerable, wild passionate, instinctive self.
Doors will open at 1:45pm
On arrival please make your way to the reception desk and follow their guidance.
WHAT TO BRING:
In this 3 hour workshop you will be in movement some but not all of the time. Please bring with you the following:

💥 Layered lightweight clothing (so you can adjust according to the heat)
💥 An open mind and an enquiring heart
This is a drug and alcohol free event.
DANCE SPACE ETIQUETTE
We come together to practice 5Rhythms.
We are drug-free and alcohol-free.
We are adults responsible for our own wellbeing.
We are aware of and respect each others’ bodies and boundaries.
We touch only with mutual consent.
We dance barefoot, in grippy socks or soft dance shoes.
We avoid synthetic perfumes.
We turn our phones off.
We do not take photos/video or use Shazam.
We communicate using movement not words.
We participate, we do not spectate.
We take the journey together and stay until the end.

Cancellation Policy:
If you cancel 72 hours prior to the start of class we will offer you either a full refund or a credit for a future class / workshop.

If you are coming by train, it’s Wimbledon Station. If you come out of the main entrance and cross the road just to the left of the Little Waitrose there is a footpath that follows the railway line all the way to the studio - you’ll see colourful mandalas in the windows on the top floor of the block after 10 minutes walking.
Parking is free on Saturdays south of the railway line (e.g. Morden Hall Road) and free after 6.30pm on Elm Grove and the sounding streets north of the railway line.
