Cinema Screening: Stolen (12A)

Detaljer

Stolen reveals how over 80,000 unmarried mothers in 20th century Ireland were incarcerated in Church-run mother and baby institutions. Many were forcibly separated from their babies, with thousands adopted or fostered in abusive conditions. Between 1922 and 1998, 9,000 infants died — sometimes at five times the national mortality rate. Survivors’ testimonies led to a government inquiry into this dark chapter.

Award-winning director Margo Harkin (Besom Productions), known for Hush-A-Bye Baby and Bloody Sunday: A Derry Diary, presents this powerful documentary. A pre-recorded Q&A with Harkin follows the screening.

Organised by Renewing Roots with support from the Irish Government (DCEDIY Commemorative Grant Scheme), this free, public event commemorates survivors.

This screen is free, please book to secure your place.

There will be a pre-recorded Q&A after this screening with acclaimed director Margo Harkin of Besom Productions.

Renewing Roots, part of Fréa, offers free, confidential support to former residents of Ireland’s Mother and Baby institutions now living in the North of England.
