Summary
Politics can contribute to the success or failure of any local council, and, in the most egregious examples, it threatens to destroy the harmony and good work for all involved. Some clerks and staff are uncomfortable with the risk that politics pose to the dynamics of their council, but, with awareness, it is possible to adopt approaches with mitigate that danger. This session explores the role of politics in organisations, considers approaches to managing this core dynamic, and explores real-world research and developments to inform approaches to what might happen given possible policy changes and trends in local government.
