Introduction to ScentWork
Scent Work, what is it:
Scent Work is a sport that mimics the task of working detection dogs to locate a scent (e.g., explosives or narcotics) and communicate to the handler that the scent has been found. Scent Work is a positive, challenging activity that allows dogs the opportunity to use their strongest natural sense in a way that’s fun, engaging, and that builds and strengthens a foundation of trust between the handler and dog.

Dogs have been bred to work alongside us; teaching them to use their natural talent of smell keeps them happy and entertained. It gives them a feeling of purpose. Dogs thrive when they feel like they have a job to do; and it’s even better when it’s something as simple as teaching them to sniff things out for you.

Introduction to ScentWork workshop.
Hi
Thank you for booking on the introduction to scentwork workshop, the workshop will be held at the above address, please allow time before the workshop to exercise your dog and for them to relive themselves.
Please pick up after your dog and always keep them on a lead, it is a busy area.
Once your dog has been exercised, please leave them in your vehicle and come to the unit and sign in.
There will be approximately 30 minutes of theory, before we start working the dogs, we only work one dog at a time, so the dogs will be returned to your vehicles when the other dogs are working.
For this workshop we will be using Kong, as the odour we are training your dog to find, as it is readily available and all Red Kong’s smell the same.
We also sell Kong’s and have lots of different ScentWork equipment available to buy, either at out unit or in our website shop.
During the workshop we will show you now to start to get your dog, on its scentwork journey, by showing you how to condition your dog to Kong, some very basic searches, and start training an alert (show you they have found the trained odour).
For the workshop you will need:
Lots of high value treats, lots! We use cocktail sausages, chicken, ham chunks, and cut up into small bits, about the size of your little fingernail! If your dog is toy mad, please bring that as well. Flat collar & lead. When we work our dogs, we put them into a harness as a trigger for them to know they are working but is not a requirement for your dog now.
Most of important is a sense of humour!
We will supply tea/coffee/water and if your super lucky some biscuits.
