Detaljer

If you’ve decided to home educate, flexi-School or defer school entry, we offer a 4 hour session on Thursdays, recommended for children aged 6-13 years to spend time in nature at our private woodland site based at Auchincruive, Ayr. Our aim is to deliver high quality care and education in a unique outdoor setting, giving your child the chance to grow, learn and flourish in nature.

No two sessions are typically the same, one week we could be knee high in mud, building a traditional shelter, researching the seasonal fauna and flora and sewing our wildflower meadow or repairing and building our forest school site or honing skills in heritage crafts. We sometimes have guest visitors- experts in their field sharing their knowledge and skills with the group.

We ask that all our participants follow three simple principles:
To look after themselves. To look after each other. To look after the Forest and our natural world.

We believe in ‘meeting people where they are’, getting to know each child. Whilst our sessions are planned with lots of care and follow a sense of rhythm and familiar structure, there is no forced activities, we aim to join you in a ‘nature connection’ journey whatever stage you’re starting at. We find the children attending build connections and friendships together, getting to know each other and our instructors week-by-week, learning and growing together.

Each session makes time for plenty of free play at our woodland site and healthy wholesome campfire snack.

Our instructors are fully trained forest school leaders and outdoor educators with enhanced PVG's, outdoor first aid, child safe guarding and food safety certified. We are fully insured and risk assessed with over 7 years experience of delivering forest school and outdoor adventure activities.

Please note: We are unable to provide 1:1 supervision of children with additional support needs. If you would like to discuss further please get in touch.

Instruksjoner

WHAT WILL MY CHILD NEED TO BRING / WEAR?

  • A drinking bottle
  • A snack and packed lunch
  • A hand towel
  • Own cup (for soup or hot drinks)
  • Suitable outdoor clothing - wellies, full waterproofs, and thermal layers, hats and gloves in cold weather; sun hats in warm weather.
  • You may choose to bring spare clothes - getting wet and muddy is likely! *whilst we ask participants to bring a packed lunch (just in case ours isn't to their taste), cooking snacks and warm drinks on the campfire is a regular occurrence and clean drinking water is available on site.

WEATHER
Our holistic learning ethos is all about play outdoors in all weathers. There is no such thing as bad weather as the saying goes... We have plenty of shelters available, as well as a yurt and any that the children choose to build!

That said, there are some weather conditions that will affect the running of the group for safety reasons:

  • Very high winds can be dangerous in woodland because of the dangers of falling branches and damage to shelters. We monitor the forecast and our site closely. Our site is fairly sheltered from Southerly and Easterly winds, we also have a yurt and tarps. We may need to close if winds are

Gusting 39mph from North or West
Gusting 45 mph from any direction

  • Electrical storms
We follow the Rospa 30/30 rule: if there is a direct lightning strike within 30km of our site, we seek shelter in vehicles and stay in for at least 30 minutes after the last thunder clap. Staff have an app on our phones which alert us if there is a strike within 30km. If electrical storms persist, we may call parents and carers for early pick up.

  • Snow and ice
Our site may also close if snow and ice make the roads too dangerous for travel.

The staff will stay informed of the weather conditions. We will always try to give 24 hours notice of closure, however we may need to cancel on the day if weather changes suddenly / overnight. We will inform parents by text and email. In the case of cancellation we endeavor to reschedule sessions. If this cannot be done, we offer a refund minus 10% to cover administration.

POLICIES
We can explain and show you all our policies and many can be found on our website for parents to view, under ‘Policies’.
