An 8 week creative exploration through somatic dance, rewilding our inner landscape through the lens of freeform movement.
Wellspring is a virtual space where we can come together in the busyness of life to drink from the wellspring of life-force | eros | creativity. This wellspring is always within us, but gets easily muddied through shame, fear, doubt, and busyness.
We use improvised movement to shake up our inner waters so we can see what’s there and what is in the way of our aliveness.
The systems of oppression we live within thrive off of us staying disconnected from our bodies and shut down from our life-force and erotic intelligence.
Re-awakening our pleasure and desire, meeting our grief and rage, and giving ourselves permission to express the full spectrum of our inner experience in a safe container, is an act of rebellion.
Here we remember our innate creativity and artistry. And the world needs us to come alive right now instead of numbing out. Because when we come alive in our bodies, we feel what's really true, and we rediscover the compass of our creative life-force.
We journey from the festival of Samhain through to Yule, working intentionally with the shortening days and lengthening nights, and the phases of the moon, meeting online every Tuesday evening.
Somatic dance is a meditative, freeform, unchoreographed, and non-performative movement practice where we step out of thinking and drop into our body. By putting the body into motion, we’re invited into feeling our emotions and moving through them. We go from feeling stuck or in problem solving mode to stepping into our creative selves. Through this practice we learn to integrate the parts of us we struggle to accept and to be with all of ourselves.
We are all born to feel, to create, to move.
In the dark nights of autumn, we gather one evening each week, in a closed group, to dance ourselves back to life.
Creativity is not reserved for certain people. It is our life-force, our soul-song, our mechanism for sense-making our mysterious existence. We are all artists.
To create regenerative futures and solve the meta-crises of our time, we need to think outside of the box, we need our creativity and authenticity more than ever.
Yet our nervous systems are often stuck in a stress response of fight, flight, or freeze, as we're constantly flooded with complex information and living at the unsustainable pace of modernity.
This challenges our ability to think creatively, compassionately, and holistically. It keeps us locked in a degenerative, fear and scarcity based mindset.
When we are in a stress response, meditation in stillness is counter-productive. We need to move our bodies to complete the stress cycle, so we can tap into our creativity again.
Through creative practices like conscious dance, we bring our inner wilderness back to life. Allowing the music to move us, we come out of logic & reason, and drop into the soft, sensing, animal of our bodies.
It's not always comfortable, for in our bodies lies the truth of how we feel, detached from the stories we tell ourselves... our bodies don't lie.
“In many shamanic societies, if you came to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions: "When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop being comforted by the sweet territory of silence?” - Gabrielle Roth, founder of 5rhythms
In this series, we come together in community to rediscover our inner wilderness through our dance.
This practice is about inviting all of ourselves with open arms. Rather than trying to fix or problem solve our discomforts from a cognitive level, we invite it all into our dance, and come out of the thinking mind. There is an alchemy that happens in the dance when we surrender to whatever is here. No striving, just being with whatever is.
We will pay attention to the natural cycles occurring within us and outside of us while meeting every Tuesday evening online for 8 weeks.
You can find the schedule below, under “Attendee Instructions”.
This is for anyone who wishes to explore their deeper terrain through movement, no prior experience is necessary.
This is for any-body, there is no way to be "good" or "bad" at this practice because it's about finding your own movement, what feels authentic and alive to you.
All of you is welcome into the practice - resistance, nervousness, exhaustion, grief, excitement, anger, confusion, silliness, joy, serenity, stuckness, fear... and so on.
“I got to experience somatic dance for the first time with Nikki during a retreat I attended. I had been looking for ways to build a deeper relationship with my body and embrace embodiment practices. I was still in a phase of trying different things, so when the opportunity came up to dance, I went with it. I was so pleasantly surprised by the experience. I found it to be a beautiful and freeing experience, deeply different from any other kind of dance experience I’d had in the past. It was the opposite of performative. I found it to be a space where I could turn inwards and relate to myself in new ways. Since joining Nikki’s session, I’ve been looking to make it a more regular practice and can’t wait to experience it again under Nikki’s supportive guidance and facilitation.” - Lucy
"Somatic dance sessions with Nikki have been a revelation for me. They've enabled me to truly connect with my body, fostering exploration and unlocking creativity. After each session, I emerge feeling lighter, deeply connected not only to my body but also to the world around me. By allowing my body's intuition to guide me, I've learned to navigate what is most alive in my life with increased ease and a lighthearted spirit." - Maria

Most evenings we will be in movement for 1 hour, with time for integration as a group at the end. You are welcome to come as you are - tired, energetic, joyful, numb, grieving, lost, purposeful etc.
We meet online every Tuesday evening from 7 - 8.30pm GMT for 8 weeks. You can check the time conversion here https://tinyurl.com/timezonebuddy. Registration is for the full 8-week container, no drop-ins are available. You will receive the recording after each session, to make-up in your own time if you can't join live.
For those who desire to develop a daily practice, you will also have access to shorter length recordings to fit into your daily schedule.
Through the movement practice, as well as visualisation, free writing, poetry, and sharing/witnessing, we will be working with themes of desire, boundaries, surrendering to the unknown, and play.
You have the option of adding on one or more 1-1 coaching sessions with Nikki to support your journey, particularly in the integration process. Email nikki@nikkikapp.com for more information.
In somatic dance we practice freedom of expression through our bodies. Our modern mechanistic society thrives on conformism, keeping us disconnected from our heart and soul’s longing for connection, so we may stay distracted by the false promise of connection and belonging through consumption.
The feminine creative life force that lives in each of us (regardless of gender) and connects us to all of life, has been stamped upon for centuries out of fear and misunderstanding.
Somatic dance is a portal into breathing and moving this part of us back to life. It is a safe space to practice authentic self expression through our bodies (emotive, expressive, non-linear, improvised) which bleeds into our day-to-day being over time.
When we free up our movement and our breath, we open up our creativity and we can see with new perspective. We cannot create regenerative and just futures through repressed bodies. This is part of the “inner regeneration” we each need to explore within ourselves.
I really understand the desire to connect in person and the turn off from an embodiment program run virtually. There is however good reason for this.
Firstly, it is to create more access to this kind of practice.
Secondly, there is real value and power in cultivating an at-home embodiment practice removed from the distraction of other bodies. For many of us it is safer and easier to “dance like no one is watching” when we know that no one is watching, and we can often reach a deeper space of authenticity.
Cultivating this practice at home also means that we can easily integrate it into our lives, and while we may choose to go out into held-spaces and move with others, we don’t need to rely on it to connect inward.
These sessions will be held through zoom to feel a sense of community, however you won’t be looking at your screen while moving.
