Summer Ashtanga Yoga Retreat with Rachel and Joey Miles near Hebden Bridge

Detaljer

Overview
A week-long non-residential retreat at our cosy home studio near Hebden Bridge. Our well-equipped studio accommodates just 12 students at a time, which allows Rachel and Joey more time to spend with each student.

The week will consist of daily meditation followed by mysore-style Ashtanga yoga practice in the mornings, in the afternoons there will be workshops which will be a mixture of alignment technique and restorative yoga influenced by Joey’s study of Iyengar yoga. These sessions often include contemplation exercises, self-reflection and journalling as part of svadhyaya (self-study) element of practice.

Woodland Walks
It's likely that we'll weave in a woodland walk or two during the course of the week, so do bring walking boots and waterproofs.

Suitability
This retreat is open to commited Ashtanga students who have been practicing for a minimum of one year and who maintain a regular practice. You must be confident practicing the Primary Series up to Marichyasana A with knowledge of the order of the poses and transitions between them.

What to Bring
We have plenty of props here, but feel free to bring your own mat or props if you prefer. Do always bring a notebook and pen in case any sessions do involve reflection exercises. It’s a good idea to bring lunch with you as shops and cafes aren’t that near and it’ll make for a more restful lunch break.

For woodland walks, bring your walking boots and some suitable clothes, it often rains in the valley, so be prepared!

Where to Stay
There are many airbnbs and other self-catering rental options around the valley. If you’re here with a car, Sowerby Bridge, Luddenden, Mytholmroyd, Todmorden, Cragg Vale are all within around 20 minute drive of our house in Brearley. There are also B&Bs such as the Hebden Townhouse. If you prefer a hotel, nearby Halifax is the best place to look.

For a cheaper option, the recently refurbished Hebden Bridge Hostel has a variety of different rooms, ranging from £25-£60 per night – (if you arrange to stay with friends in a 6-bed dorm it works out even cheaper than £25 per night). If you are having any trouble finding accommodation, do get in touch with us, we also have friends locally with spare rooms who may be able to accommodate you.

Travel to and from our house
We live in an old textile mill in the Calder Valley, a 5-minute drive from market town Hebden Bridge, in little village called Brearley. It's just off the main road so it's easy to get to by bus, and is about a 25 minute walk from Mytholmroyd train station. It's also got a cycle path and canal running right past us, so is pleasant to get here by bike too. There is parking nearby and full parking info will be sent closer to the time.
