These sessions are designed as a relaxed introduction to Forest School for home-educating families, giving children and their adults the opportunity to spend time outdoors together, learn new skills and enjoy being part of a small group.
The sessions will follow the child-led ethos of Forest School. There won’t be a set timetable or expectation that children take part in every activity. Instead, a range of resources, activities and opportunities will be available, allowing children to choose what interests them and to spend as much or as little time as they wish on each activity.
There will be opportunities to explore the woodland, play, build, create, practise practical skills and learn about the natural environment. Adults are encouraged to get involved alongside their children, although there will also be plenty of opportunity to step back and allow children to take the lead.
The sessions are aimed at children aged 5+ and their adults, with a limited number of younger siblings welcome. They are intended for families who are currently home educating or flexi-schooling and are looking for a regular outdoor learning opportunity.
As this is a three-session trial, we ask families to block book all three sessions. This helps us create a familiar group and gives children the opportunity to settle into the environment and build confidence over the three weeks.
There will be an opportunity to cook a snack over the fire which will vary from week to week, please do let us know of any dietary requirements so they can be catered for.
Sessions are held outdoors in all weathers, children should ensure they were sturdy footwear, preferably not wellies as these are cold in winter. Layers which are appropriate to the time of year including waterproof jackets and trousers, hats and gloves and also sun cream when the weather is nice. We operate through all weather with the exception of high winds, thunder storms and heavy snow & ice.
We will cater for dietary needs - please ensure you have completed the information when booking.
We do not permit electronic devices to be brought to the session or used whilst on site, we understand these are often classed as a comfort to children but they must remain in their bags or not brought onto site at all. We take no responsibility if they are broken, lost or stolen.
