Part 2 – Developing and Deepening Your Use of Colour
For those who have completed Part 1, taken one of my previous colour courses, or already have painting experience. We’ll take colour further, exploring how it shapes the mood and structure of a painting.
Whether you’re starting out or looking to expand your range, these courses are designed to give you greater confidence and more control in handling colour.
Topics include:
Colour as an equivalent, not just a description
The interplay of composition and colour to create impact
The power of limited palettes
Subdued versus heightened colour, and when to use each
How coloured grounds can transform a painting
More advanced approaches to optical mixing and glazing
A deeper awareness of light — from colour cast to reflections and luminosity
Please arrive 9:30am onwards for a 10am start. The venue has a stairlift. Please e mail me if you have any further mobility needs.
The studio is in central Lewes so can be reached by public transport. There are always taxis outside Lewes station if you need a lift from there.
There is limited parking just outside the studio for three cars please park at a near right angle to the building in the little bay.

What to bring: brushes, a palette, paint rags (old towels are best if you have them, or cotton rags), dippers and palette knives.
Please bring a packed lunch. All other refreshments will be provided.
What is at the studio already or Tom is providing: Easels, chairs, tables, boards, low odour thinner, paint, painting surfaces.
