Join us for our "Weave a traditional Irish Potato Basket or Sciathog" workshop in the Walled Garden and explore the traditions of Irish willow basketry.🌿
The Sciathog (pronounced skeeogue) takes its name from the Irish word for shield (sciath) and was traditionally used to strain boiled potatoes. With the season of Irish new potatoes 🥔 🥔 fast approaching and the much-anticipated harvest of our PGI-status Comber Earlies, this handcrafted basket could be a charming addition to your kitchen—or perhaps a stylish bread basket 🥐 or fruit bowl 🍏🍊🍋 to impress your guests!
Spend the day learning this traditional craft with talented local willow artist,Heather McDermott using sustainable willow 🌿 grown in our Salley Garden. You'll be working in a beautiful heritage setting, enjoying good food, great company, and leaving with a handcrafted basket to be proud of.
