Our Forest School Level 3 Training is designed with one clear goal: Complete your practical training so you are fully equipped and cleared to run your own sessions the moment the New Year begins. This Agored Cymru accredited Level 3 Certificate is designed for educators, youth workers, and outdoor enthusiasts ready to embark on their journey as a Forest School Leader. Grounded in the six core Forest School Principles, this course provides the perfect blend of theoretical depth and hands-on, fully outdoor practical experience.
By the end of this journey, you will have the skills, knowledge, and accreditation required to design, lead, and evaluate long-term Forest School programmes that inspire resilience and curiosity in others.
📅 COURSE STRUCTURE & CONTENT
The training consists of 8 days of fully outdoor practical instruction at our dedicated woodland sites, plus a one-day workshop to help solidify your learning and portfolio progress.
You will explore five comprehensive study units:
Supporting Learning, Play, and Development in Natural Environments: Understanding the pedagogy behind the practice.
Delivering Forest School: The logistics and leadership of running a successful programme.
Observing and Evaluating Forest School: Monitoring the impact and progression of your learners.
Sustainable Use and Management of Natural Resources: Woodland ecology and conservation.
Teaching Outdoor Practical Skills: Mastering fire, tools, shelter, and crafts.
🌿 WHAT TO EXPECT
Hands-on Learning: Dive deep into fire lighting, tool use, knot work, and shelter building.
Portfolio Support: You will receive a bespoke learner handbook and consistent support from your tutor via phone and email throughout your journey.
Work-Based Assessment: You will put your skills into practice by designing and delivering a Forest School programme.
Small Group Focus (Max 10): Spaces are strictly capped at 10 participants. We maintain high tutor-to-learner ratios to ensure you get the bespoke guidance you need.
🤝 THE WILD ROOTS VOLUNTEER PATHWAY (NO SITE? NO PROBLEM)
We know the hardest part of completing your Level 3 is finding a woodland site and a group of learners for your practical assessment. If you do not have a site, we have you covered. Trainees on this cohort will have the exclusive option to join our Wild Roots Volunteer / Trainee Pathway. You can run your required assessment sessions right here at our fully established sites, gaining real-world experience alongside our elite team.

📋 IMPORTANT INFORMATION & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Numbers: Training is subject to a minimum booking of 4 participants.
Location: Fully outdoor training at our woodland sites (Red Rock / Coed Hirwaun). Please dress for all weathers!
First Aid & DBS: Participants are strongly advised to hold a suitable 16-hour Outdoor First Aid certificate and a current DBS check before beginning their work-based delivery.
Age: 18 years or over.
Experience: A relevant Level 2 qualification OR significant experience in education, youth work, or childcare.

To ensure you have the best experience on your training journey, please come prepared with the following:
Clothing: We operate a "no such thing as bad weather" policy. Please bring multiple thin layers, a high-quality waterproof coat and trousers, and sturdy, waterproof footwear (walking boots are generally better than wellies for long days on uneven ground).
Food & Drink: Please bring a substantial packed lunch and a reusable water bottle. We will provide tea, coffee, and biscuits, so please bring a reusable travel mug to help us reduce waste.
Stationery: A notebook and pen are essential for taking field notes. A clipboard can also be very helpful for writing while in the woods.
Health & Consent: You will receive a digital health and consent form once your booking is confirmed. Please ensure this is returned at least 48 hours before the course start date.
Timing: We start promptly at 09:30. Please aim to arrive at the site by 09:15 to allow for a brew and a catch-up before we begin.
