The workshop will take place in Neatishead New Victory village hall.
The content of the workshop will be adapted based on the skills and prior knowledge of the people who attend. There will be as much assistance as needed or wanted by those who attend as well as the opportunity to share knowledge with each other.
For people new to bookmaking, the objective of the workshop will be to learn the basic skills of bookmaking while making a simple concertina book.
For those who attended the first workshop we will build on that to develop more sophisticated books.
While we will try and provide enough materials and tools for everyone it would greatly help if you could bring the following items which will also equip you to make further books at home.
Pad of A3 cartridge paper or watercolour paper around 180-210 gsm. Goldline watercolour paper works well
A few sheets of Scrap A4 paper, copier paper is fine.
3 foldback clips 30-50mm
Pencil
30 cm acrylic ruler with cutting edge Jakar Ref: 3063. Worth buying
Steel ruler (30cm) not necessary if you have the acrylic ruler above
Scalpel or sharp craft knife
6” Bone folder (this is an essential tool for bookmaking and would be worth buying if you intend to make any more books about £5 on Amazon You can also get basic bookmaking kits on Amazon for £10.99 with several of these bits included.)
Bookcloth or printed paper for covering the boards choose whatever you want to suit your style and the content. There will be a limited selection available on the day
Cutting mat A3 minimum but A1 or A2 is more useful if you plan on making more books.
For the basic book, we will be making a 13cm square book as this allows two pages to be made from each A3 sheet. Ultimately you will want to print your photos on the page before hand but for this workshop it will be easier to print photos separately and stick them in afterwards using 6-10 photos. You could add printed text if you wish. PVA glue, brushes rag etc will be provided.
Photos should be sized to fit on a 13cm square page, we will talk about sequencing.

1) Do not attend the event if you are feeling unwell or if you have been suffering with a cough and/or high temperature in the past 48 hours
2) Plan to wear or bring with you appropriate outer clothing and footwear for the conditions likely to be encountered during the shoot
3) Plan to bring refreshments with you if necessary
4) Health and safety guidance is available on the website
5) Check the website before leaving to attend the shoot for any last minute changes particularly if extreme weather conditions are forecast.
