A GCSE Art & Design class for home-educated students. This small-group class gives home-educated students aged 14 to 16 regular expert teaching, clear feedback and a creative space to work alongside others.
Each week we’ll develop coursework through sketchbook work, drawing, painting, printmaking and 3D ideas, depending on each student’s project. Students are encouraged to carry on working at home between sessions.
The GCSE course is split into two components.
Component 01 — Portfolio. 60% of the GCSE. Developed across Year One and the start of Year Two.
Students produce a portfolio of practical work showing their personal response to a set starting point, brief, scenario or stimulus. The portfolio must provide evidence that the student has met all four assessment objectives.
Component 02 — Externally Set Task. 40% of the GCSE. Completed in the Spring Term of Year Two.
Students respond to one of five themes, each with a range of written and visual starting points and stimuli. Students research, plan and develop ideas for their response to the option they have chosen, which they must then realise within the ten-hour supervised time period.
Exam entry and coursework moderation for home-educated students are handled through an approved exam centre. I guide every family through the process, so you’re never left to work it out alone.
The class runs term time only and in half termly blocks. This booking is for five Thursdays: 12, 19 and 26 November, and 3 and 10 December.
Led by an art teacher with 26 years of classroom experience and an approved tutor with Tutors & Exams. DBS checked and insured.
Arriving: the class starts at 2.30pm. Please arrive about five minutes early so we can start on time. The Horsebridge is at 11 Horsebridge Road, Whitstable, CT5 1AF. Come to the Hub on the 1st floor.
Collection: Please collect your child at 4.00pm, or tell me in advance if they’ll make their own way home.
What to wear: clothes that can get messy. I provide most materials and aprons. A water bottle is a good idea.

On Nov 12th the session will be held in the Studio, rather than the Hub.
