Coaching is essentially the skill of helping someone think through their stuff in their own way. It’s a core skill for anyone enabling and empowering the ministry of others. Mentors use coaching skills and bring their own experience into the mix. Supervisors also use coaching skills but bring in other aspects of the role, the organisation and the people we serve. This four-day course is learning through practice so that, like learning to ride a bike, what feels clunky at first becomes part of your practice by day four.
Who is this for?
Anyone wanting to enable the ministry of others, those in supervisory roles such as training incumbents, rural deans and team leaders, mentors, and those who may have the heart and the time to offer coaching to others in the diocese.
Ian Bussell is the Director of Mission and Ministry. He trained as a teacher and then as a psychotherapist before ordination. He has had two parish roles where he has been a training incumbent. In the last few years, he has developed coaching and mindfulness in the diocese of Gloucester.
