Designed for new clerks and experienced clerks seeking a practical refresher, this training explores the essential knowledge and skills needed to support a council effectively and confidently.
The session covers the roles, responsibilities, duties and powers of clerks and councillors, including the important distinction between political leadership and council administration. Participants will learn how to find and interpret relevant legislation, understand the legal significance of agendas and minutes, and apply council policies and procedures in practice.
The training also considers good governance, professional boundaries, confidentiality, impartiality and effective communication, helping clerks build constructive working relationships with councillors while providing clear and professional support.
