Class Description

Roll a twenty with veteran D&D and Magic: the Gathering artist Scott M Fischer as he takes you through the stages of creating art for roll playing games.

Scott has been contributing to D&D and Magic for more than 25 years. Scott will give you a curriculum focussed on either of these styles of illustration. You can choose your track: he will apply his deep experience to your art. In the D&D track you can create a variety of work, from conceptual designing monsters/heroes/weapons- to making interior style illustrations from those concepts- to finally creating D&D style cover with those elements. In the Magic: the Gathering track you can develop a portfolio of illustrations geared towards the card format. Whether you use traditional media or digital media, Scott is versed in both and will guide your hand each week via live paint overs and critiques.

The goal will be to finish the class with key portfolio pieces to show the gaming industry.

Note: because of the small class size you can also opt for an independent study. Scott has been a popular instructor for years because of his depth of experience in many fields: children's books, comics, gallery work, and more (see his bio). If you want to pursue other visions, Scott is more than happy to work with you on an individual basis within the small group.

Towards the end of the semester a special industry guest will review student work.
After taking this class students will also receive the option of a free profile on the Alumni Portfolios page. Visit the Alumni Portfolios page and type a teacher's name into the search bar to see some of the artists who studied with that teacher.
