Thetford Community Bird Song Sound Baths at the BTO

Details

Fully funded community bird song sound baths at the British Trust for Ornithology in Thetford - available to those living in Thetford with an IP24 postal code who are experiencing barriers to wellbeing.
We have 2 sessions on offer currently - 22nd May and 16th June - please choose one session of your choice.

These sessions are offered with the intention of reaching as many within the local Thetford community as possible who may be within need, would like to try a sound bath for the first time, or who may be experiencing genuine financial barriers to these wellness practices, and would be otherwise unable to attend. When booking, please kindly choose ONE session of your choice. Thank you.

These unique sessions are designed to combine for you the therapeutic benefits of birdsong and sound therapy instruments. Offered in the beautiful ancient building of the chapel that forms part of the BTO offices and headquarters in the Nunnery, Thetford.

A sound bath is a full body listening experience where you can simply rest and see where the live instrumental soundscape takes you. For these sessions you can choose to sit in a chair or lay down and simply rest and listen.
I’ll offer a short, guided visualisation to begin and then share with you a gentle sound bath using instruments such as voice, gongs, singing bowls, drum, monochord and chimes. High quality recordings of British birdsong will be playing gently throughout.

The room will be warm, dimly lit and with essential oils and calming scents of the forest diffusing in the space.

This session offers:
An introduction to the concept of sound bathing and the therapeutic value of birdsong.
A live, immersive instrumental soundscape.
A supportive space for rest (or sleep if that is what is needed.)
Time for yourself away from demands of every day life and technology.
Opportunity to tune in to your inner voice and needs.

Potential benefits for you:
Regulation of your nervous system.
Processing of thoughts and emotions.
Deep and restorative relaxation.
Release of stress, muscular tension and/or stuck emotions.
Insights, creativity and accessing intuition.
A better night's sleep.

Considerations - A sound meditation is relaxing for most guests, however sound is powerful and has the potential to evoke memories and emotions. With this in mind it is generelly understood that coming to a sound bath may not be suitable for you if you experience any of the following: sound induced epilepsy, a pacemaker fitted, acute/severe mental health concerns, are in crisis, experiencing active addiction, Meniere's or any health condition triggered by sound, or if you are in the first trimester of pregnancy. It is also common to drift to sleep at times in a sound bath so a group session will not be the right setting if you experience sleep apnoea. Should any of these apply to you please get in touch as soon as possible for a confidential discussion so you can decide if this experience is right for you. By booking this event you confirm you have read and understood this statement.

This is an indoor event.
One base foam yoga mat is provided for each guest. In addition please bring lots of comfortable things to help you be at ease sitting laying on the floor, whatever you feel that you may need which might include:

*Something to lay on that is padded, this could be an exercise or yoga mat, roll out camping mattress, sun lounger cushion or similar
*Blankets
*Pillow / cushion
*Eye mask or eye pillow if this is your preference Chairs are available should you prefer to sit.

These sessions will be free of charge for anyone with an IP24 postcode who may not otherwise be able to access wellbeing sessions – donations invited to the BTO on the day of your session if it is within your means.

By booking this event your consent to your details being shared with the BTO purely for the purpose of ensuring they can contact you regarding any changes to the event, and to cater appropriately for our guests.

To ensure we reach as many within the local community as possible who may be within need, or experiencing barriers to these practices, please kindly choose one session of your choice. Thank you.
I’ll be available alongside a BTO staff member for chats and questions after the sound bath where hot drinks will be offered if you would like one.

If you have any questions prior to booking please do not hesitate to reach out by email or telephone. You can reach me on nicky@soundandground.co.uk or 07718900747.
