🌲 Family Forest Day for Families with Care or Trauma Experienced Children 🌲
A collaboration between Through the Trees CIC and Stomping Grounds Forest School.
Are you parenting or caring for a child with care or trauma-experience? We see you. We know the daily challenges can feel overwhelming, and the need for rest, connection and joy is real.
Join us for a nature-filled day out for the whole family, part of our Thrive with Nature project.
Places are limited based on staff to child ratios. If fully booked, your name will be added to our waiting list and you will be contacted if we increase capacity or receive any cancellations.
Together, we’ll step into the woods to reconnect with ourselves, each other, and the natural world — all within a supportive group setting.
Location: Stomping Grounds, Dukes Hagg site, Prudhoe
Dates: Saturday, 29th August OR 5th September
Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
End the summer holidays gently or reset after a return to school with a day of play, connection, and nature exploration!
This event is open exclusively to families with a care or trauma-experienced child/children and is designed for adults attending with children aged 5–12 years. Whether you are an adoptive parent, foster carer, residential care home support worker, kinship carer or guardian – all are welcome. All children in the household within this age range are welcome to come along when accompanying a care experienced child.
🌿What to Expect:
WELCOME We’ll begin with a warm welcome circle and time to settle into the Forest School setting.
CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES Children will stay with Stomping Grounds Forest School practitioners at the woodland camp, enjoying Forest School experiences like mud play, den building, hammocks, storytelling, and more!
ADULT FOREST BATHING WALK While the children are busy exploring, carers are invited to take part in a 2-hour guided Forest Bathing walk with Kirstie from Through the Trees, offering a chance to slow down and deeply connect with nature. Tea and cake made from foraged ingredients will be provided.
LUNCH (Bring Your Own) We’ll regroup at the camp for a picnic-style lunch. Please bring your own packed lunches for your family/group.
FAMILY PLAY & ACTIVITIES Spend the final hour enjoying creative activities together, sharing stories, making snacks on the fire pit, or simply relaxing in nature.
GOODBYES To close we’ll gather in circle, reflect on our time in nature and share in a sing-along to celebrate our time outdoors.
🌲Why Join?
Forest School is a child-led, hands-on learning approach that fosters curiosity, confidence, and connection through outdoor play.
Forest Bathing (Shinrin-yoku) is a Japanese practice of mindfully immersing yourself in nature, which can promote wellbeing and relaxation.
Everyone will receive a warm or cool drink and campfire snack.
We look forward to welcoming you to the woods for a day of joy, relaxation, and connection!
Booking is essential – spaces are FREE, or by donation, but limited.
