Beltane Event for Families & Adults

Details

We will gather around the campfire and roundhouse. Beltane (or Beltain) is the start of the most active part of the growing season in our part of the world. It's a time to mark the fertility of the land, and in the countryside the Hawthorne and Elder are usually in flower, and many other spring flowers are fully blossoming. Celebrations are focused on the weaving together of energies, like with Maypole dancing where different colours are woven as the dance takes place. New growth and life comes from a 'marriage' of different forces or elements, like pollen arriving on the stamens of flowers so that seeds or berries can grow.

Bel-tane also means 'a goodly fire', and was a time when people purified themselves or stock through smoke or fire, or jumped the fire to signify a union.

  • Make garlands using flowers and willow
  • Practice fire-starting and learning how to take care of our own good fire
    • Help cook and taste Elder flower fritters
  • explore the woods and look for animal tracks and signs, learn flowers and tree names
  • Create a Beltane ritual
