Details

The club's Novice Pairs competition for the Morrie Marsh Trophy will take place on Thursday 13th May at 7.15pm.

This competition replaces the usual Thursday evening Learn & Play session, and is restricted to 'Novice Pairs' who are full members of Oxford Bridge Club.

We will be playing on RealBridge, and will play 14-16 boards at about 9 minutes per board. The entry fee is £3.00 per player.

For the purposes of this competition a ‘Novice Pair’ is a partnership in which both players:

  • either have fewer than 200 Masterpoints (that is, below Club Master) and have not previously won this or any other club trophy, excluding the Roger Hughes Trophy.
  • or have attended a 'Bridge for All' Year 1 or Year 2 course run by Oxford Bridge School at any time since June 2020.

Pairs who do not meet the above criteria are welcome to play in the competition but they cannot win the Trophy.

Players with previous experience of playing duplicate bridge who have returned to the game after a long gap, and those holding a significant number of masterpoints from a non-EBU organisation, are not considered Novices for this event.

Please note also that only members of Oxford Bridge Club can win the trophy so please make sure that you have renewed your membership (if you had free membership as a student last year) or please do join the club if you want to be eligible for the trophy. For further information on membership and to join please email the Membership Secretary at memsec@oxfordbridgeclub.com. Membership is not required to compete though so please take part even if you are not a club member or don’t wish to join at this time.

If you have a regular partner that's great, just sign up together in a single booking as per usual. If not, please book as an individual and we’ll pair people up where we can.

As this is a competition with masterpoints, on this occasion you will not be able to ask for help. Use of system/convention cards is allowed for online play.

The qualifying Novice pair with the highest score will win the trophy. The Trustees reserve the right to review the status of all competing players. To that end, the winners will not be announced on the night.

Pre-booking is required. Bookings close at 07:00 pm on the day and you need to be logged in to the session by 07:05 pm at the latest with play starting at 07:15 pm.
