Details

A half day trailing working on skills/components. You will complete 3 - 4 trails in this session.

For anyone who has previously completed an introduction to Mantrailing with a Mantrailing Global/UK instructor.

Train with us to progress yours and your dog's Mantrailing skills, open to all levels of experience, trails will be tailored to the individual dog’s requirements.

A session needs a minimum of 3 participant's to be able to go ahead. If there are less than three participants the session will be postponed / rearranged for a later date.

A team equals 1 owner and 1 dog.

The session will last approximately 5 hours (depending on numbers attending and exercises undertaken). Where there are fewer participants or if the weather becomes unsuitable the session may finish earlier, likewise the session could overrun if there are more participants/more complex trails. The session length is a guide only.

Instructions

You will need to bring the following with you:

  • Suitable clothes for outdoors and for the weather as well as some sturdy, comfortable footwear (e.g. walking shoes/boots)
  • A harness, preferably a Y-shaped one that will support them across their chest as they pull into it. Please do not put this on your dog until asked!
  • A long lead, 10 meters is perfect, we usually recommend a rubberised one that has plenty of grip and doesn't get as wet and muddy as other leads (I will have some available to borrow if needed)
  • Your normal collar and lead
  • Gloves - we advise that handlers wear gloves with strong pulling dogs to prevent the lead from burning your hands.
  • 2-3 sealable food pots that are pocket sized and big enough for your dog to lick/eat from
  • High value food rewards (e.g. Sardines, wet dog food (or cat food!), pate, squeezy cheese, etc.) - The smellier the better. Ideally, your high value reward should be something that isn't a normal day to day treat or their normal kibble/biscuits. Please bring plenty of food to refill your pots for each trail. This reward is going to be super high value!
  • Their favourite ball/toy if your dog is ball/toy motivated
  • A scent article - this is a small item that carries your scent, it may be a scarf, headband, glove, bandana or hat (socks are not the best choice). Please place this in a resealable zip-lock bag.
  • Normal dog treats
  • Poo bags, water and a water bowl
  • A drink and snacks for yourself!
  • In case of heat, please come prepared with a car shade to cover your car and bring appropriate necessities to keep your dog cool.
  • In case of cold weather please come prepared with towels/coats to keep your dog warm.
  • You are responsible for making sure that your vehicle is set up appropriately for the weather.
  • Dogs must also be secured in the vehicle, especially if you have your boot/door(s) open.

If you think you will struggle standing about for the duration of the workshop please feel free to bring a foldable chair, you are welcome (and we encourage you) to follow the dogs that are trailing, but ask that you stand behind the dogs and instructor (and follow) and don't interrupt them. Some dogs may not be comfortable with this and we will accommodate the needs of these dogs first.

Important information:
You are responsible for the Health and Safety of both you, your dog and everyone around you.

We will be working dogs one at a time; it is therefore necessary for your dog to be able to safely wait in the car until it is their turn. You will learn a lot from observing the other dogs while they are working and trailing. If your dog is uneasy around other dogs or people, consider covering your windows so they can't see out or bring someone with you that can sit with them in between trails.
You will also take turns to be the ‘missing person’ for other teams.
