Improv might sound a bit scary if you’re worried about "making things up," but that’s exactly why we’re here. At the workshop, we'll guide you through fun, simple games designed to help you stop overthinking and start having fun. We’ll show you how to trust your instincts and feel more comfortable in the moment. It’s all about letting go, laughing, and connecting with others in a relaxed, friendly space.
Improv builds confidence and creativity, but more than that, people often find it improves their well-being and helps them approach life with a fresh perspective. Everyone is welcome—no experience needed. Our community is open, supportive, and full of good energy.
Just wear something comfy, come with an open mind, and we’ll take care of the rest. Nervous? That’s totally normal—those nerves won’t last long. Expect lots of laughter and a great time!

On arrival, do not go the hotel lobby reception. *Go straight upstairs (or take the lift) and *wait in the first-floor reception. ** Students start to gather in the first-floor reception about 15 minutes before class.
Please arrive in good time so class can start promptly with all group members present. The warm-up is an important part of the session for both you and the group. While we understand that traffic or other delays can happen occasionally, regular lateness is disruptive - if this becomes a pattern, please adjust your journey so you can begin the class on time.
Classes are held in the first-floor meeting rooms at Leonardo Hotel, Scotswood Road, NE1 4AD. The hotel (within the St. James Gate complex across the road from Life Centre) is a short walk from Newcastle Central Station and Metro. Don't make the mistake of going to the Quayside Hotel! School of Improv classes are held at Leonardo Hotel (formerly Jurys Inn) Scotswood Road. Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4AD – a 5min walk from Central Station within the St James Gate quadrant by Centre for Life. Don't make the mistake of going to quayside hotel!
Classes are held in the first-floor meeting rooms, accessible by lift or stairs. Go straight up and wait in the first-floor reception. Students generally start to arrive about 20 mins before classes are due to start. If you are late, you will usually find us in meeting rooms 3 and 5, but this can vary, so check through the door window first.
There is usually ample street parking nearby and the Discovery Museum car-park is a 5 min walk. There is occasionally a football match at St James or an event at the Metro Arena so best check if you need to set off sooner at these times if you're coming by car.
